GCSE Physics changed in 2011

Before 2011, people used to study:

Analogue & Digital Signals, Radioactivity + Telescopes

But no-one does that in Unit 1 anymore!

After 2011, people now study:

Solids, Liquids & Gases, Evaporation & Condensation,

Specific Heat Capacity & U-Values, Cost-Effectiveness,

Waves, Reflection, Refraction, Diffraction& Sound.

But no-one used to do that in Unit 1 in the old days!

After 2011, exams are now 60 minutes for 60 marks

There is also a new 6 mark question that says:

“In this question you will be assessed on using good English, organising information clearly and using specialist terms where appropriate.”

Compare the advantages and disadvantages of buying compact fluorescent bulbs rather than filament bulbs. [6]

Here are some advantages of compact fluorescent bulbs:

They are four times more efficient than filament bulbs, they are cheaper to use, they last 8 times longer and they are better for the environment.

The disadvantages of compact fluorescent bulbs are:

They cost 24 times as much to buy as filament bulbs, disposal is a problem because of their poisonous mercury vapour and they have a shortened lifespan if they are turned on and off very frequently.
