Our Mission and Vision Mission Wise Latina International’s mission is to educate and empower Latinas and women of all walks of life to overcome barriers, to be self reliant, to become leaders and to act as agents of change in our communities through arts and entertainment. Vision It is Wise Latina International’s Vision to advocate and strive towards equality for Latinas and women in all aspects of life thereby acquiring parity, power and influence in education, health care and civil rights, social and economic justice. Thus, building a strong sisterhood and presence in all areas of government, community and family. Evolution...Own it!

WLI uses entertainment, cultural and performing arts and related activities to enlighten and raise awareness, to develop leaders and mentors, to support and encourage women to overcome racial, cultural and economic barriers. It does so while embracing history, cultural diversity and promoting cultural pride.

  6. “TAPESTRY OF EVOLUTION: STRENGTH, POWER AND INFLUENCE” The Purpose of the First Inaugural WLI Summit is to promote and encourage economic, educational, health, socio/political empowerment for the betterment of Latinas, women, family and community by utilizing and developing leaders while encouraging professional and personal development. • The Summit is a culmination of the Wise Latina International’s “Latina Identity Project,” initiated October of 2013.Part Ibrought together women in El Paso and Juarez to explore “Who Are We? What does it Mean to be Latina?”Part II examined “The State of Latinas in El Paso” in matters of education, health, economic equality,among others. The Inaugural Summit will take data gathered at those two meetings to address the future and our role in contributing to the economic, educational, health and socio/political growth of our communities. • The summit will promote positive representation and appreciation of cultural traditions, historical accuracy, and language in its goal to ensure equal access and opportunity.

  7. Format: The summit will be a multi-faceted platform that will encourage the use of interactive and liberating structures to engage speakers and participants alike in roundtable discussions. WLI’s intention is to provide a forum for free flowing ideas that will result in recommendations and a Call to Action that will ultimately provide results. Speakers: Currently, WLI has reached out to Former Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis, First Latina to serve on the President’s Cabinet. Entrepreneur, Construction Industry pioneer and first Latina to join Major Baseball owner’s roster as Co-Owner of the Colorado Rockies, Linda Alvarado, and Dr. Christine Sierra, Professor and Director of University of New Mexico’s Southwest Hispanic Research Institute, whose sixty-two affiliated faculty engage in historical and contemporary research on Hispanic populations and communities in local, regional, national and transnational contexts. (Partial list) Novelist, poet and playwright Ana Castillo and author, playwright, poet, activist and Border Book Festival Founder Denise Chavez are literary figures to be featured at the Summit. Both authors will have their new books, “Give It To Me,” and “Queen and King of Comezon,” respectively, released this spring/summer. “Tapestry of Evolution: Strength, Power and Influence” is committed to highlighting local artists including writers, musicians, performing artists, muralists, etc.
