    1. Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program A program of the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs Administered by the Council of American Oversees Research Centers (CAORC) and American Councils for International Education

    2. Program objective: increase the number of Americans studying critical foreign languages. Launched in 2006. Target group: U.S. citizen undergraduate and graduate students. Over 5200 applications received for nearly 600 awards in 2011. Program Overview
