  2. What happens? • It is caused by the Epstain-Barr Virus.

  3. What are the signs and symptoms? • People usually develop two weeks of fever, sore throat, and swollen lymph nodes in the neck, throat. Or armpits. • Other symptoms include: • Skin rash • Headache • Stiff neck • Loss of appetite.

  4. Who gets it? • Most common in teenagers and young adults. • Transmitted by saliva not transmitted through the air. • May be in your body for 4-6 weeks without symptoms. • Infected B cells are responsible for the fever and swelling of tensils.

  5. Are there ways to prevent it????????? • No vaccine • Avoid kissing • Wash drinking glasses and utensils very good. • Don’t drink after others.

  6. How is it diagnosed?? • Based on blood test with Doctors. • Examination of patient’s throat and neck. • If diagnosed there will be and increased number of certain white blood cells.

  7. How is it treated? • It can’t be treated with anitbodies!!!!!! • Self care at home until the virus is gone. • Rest in bed • Advil or tylenol • Patient should avoid contact sport for at lease a month.

  8. What is the prognosis? • Rarely causes serious complications. • Some people may develop a form of anemia that can be treated with steriods. • Fever goes down within 10 days. • Some people may not feel the same for 3 months!!! But its normal!
