  3. When do you speak with a loud voice? On my signal, turn and talk with your partner and complete this stem: I speak with a loud voice when ________________________________.

  4. Objective: To appreciate the rhythm and rhyme of a poem Today we are going to read a poem called “At The Top of my Voice.” As we read the poem I want you to listen for rhyming words that you hear.

  5. At The Top Of My Voice When I stamp The ground thunders, When I shout The world rings, When I sing The air wonders How I do such things. What rhyming words did you hear? How did this poem make you feel?

  8. Sung to the tune “The Farmer in the Dell” I hear two sounds in at. I hear two sounds in at. /a/ /t/ That’s right! I hear two sounds in at. I add /s/ to at. I add /s/ to at. The new word that I made is sat. it + /b/ = bit ad + /s/ = sad ice + /sl/ = slice and + /gr/ = grand end + /t/ = tend as + /h/ = has at + /f/ = fat in + /sk/ = skin age + /p/ = page

  9. Objective: To recognize and read contractions with ‘s, n’t, ‘ll Contractions Remember a contraction is a shorter way to say two words.

  10. We will be looking at three different contractions today. The first one is ‘s. The second one is n’t. The third one is ‘ll. See if you can pick out these contractions in the following sentences. He’s going home. He can’t stay. We’ll play on Sunday.

  11. Let’s read these sentences and pick out the contractions I’ll make a cake. You’ll help me. We won’t let it burn. She’s on her way.

  16. Objective: To draw a conclusion based on clues in a story Drawing Conclusions Remember that the writer in a story does not always tell us everything we need to know. We need to use clues from the story to figure out some things. Figuring things out this way is called drawing conclusions.

  17. Today we are going to look back at the story Market Day. Listen carefully as we reread the story so that we can draw our own conclusions at the end of the story. Is the market indoors or outdoors? How do you know? How long have they been at the market? How do you know this? At the end , the author says, “ We’re home at last.” What words help you figure out that the trip was long?

  18. If what I describe is puzzling, then you should scratch your head and looked puzzled. If not do nothing. We line up to go to lunch. It snows in July. It is time to go home. A bug starts talking to you. You just had your pencil and now you can’t find it.

  19. I will name some jobs that people do. If asking lots of probing questions is part of the job, give a thumbs up. If not do nothing at all. reporter chef astronaut crossing guard typist vet doctor scientist mover

  20. I will use unrelenting in sentences. If you think that I used unrelenting correctly, then you should say , “That’s is unrelenting!” If you think I did not use unrelenting correctly, then you should say, “That’s not unrelenting!” I was unrelenting as I ate my cereal. I was unrelenting as I tried to solve the mystery. I was unrelenting as I played on the playground. I was unrelenting in my search for Mom’s lost ring. I was unrelenting as I tried to win the race. I was unrelenting as I tied my shoe.

  21. Objective: To understand that words can have multiple meanings Multiple Meaning Words Remember that multiple meaning words sound the same but have different meanings. I can reach that can on the shelf. What is the multiple meaning word in this sentence?

  22. He leaves his house at 8:00. The leaves are brown and red. I need a coat when it is cold. I will coat my brush with paint.

  23. Rhyming Poem • It has a title. • Some lines end with rhyming words. • It has a rhythm. • It is enjoyable to read and listen to.
