You can tap solar energy using photovoltaic cells (in solar-powered calculators) or using the solar-thermal method like what we do in the Mojave Desert. We have over 1800 mirrors arranged in 100 acres of land to reflect sunlight onto the top of a tower. I heard Singapore’s sunny just like California. Can’t you use solar energy? The amount of energy generated will be tremendous and readily available. Furthermore, a nuclear plant doesn't take up much space. Aren't these just what Singapore needs? However many people are terribly against it because of the many problems it entails, amongst them, nuclear waste disposal and the possibility of accidents. Well, what do you think?   15. Energy Sources next • introduction Dear Baby Kevin, I’m sorry to hear of the crisis! Here in Chongqing, the huge dam at the Yangtze River provides us with hydroelectric energy. Hydroelectric energy is clean, steady and cheap (at least after the dam was built!). My grandfather said the dam was also built to curb the disastrous river floods that killed many people. However, I was told many historical sites, natural habitats and village settlements had to be flooded to create the reservoir behind the dam. But do you think Singapore can generate hydroelectric energy? There are many ways of generating biomass energy. A long time ago, it just meant burning wood or animal dung. Now, you can grow energy crops like sugar cane and oil palms for fuel. Also, decomposing matter like rubbish emit combustible gas that we can use. There're lots of possibilities for biomass energy. Do you think Singapore can use any of them?
