  13. Escalations • The problem*must have gone through Tech Support. • The instrumentmust be down. • The problemmust have been confirmed at least a second time. • The escalation*must take the highest priority at all times. • The focusmust be on repairs rather then replacement. • All communicationsmust take place between the Owner and the Field Representative only. • Problems will be de-escalated when the field and tech support agree that the problem no longer needs "escalation" attention.

  16. Safety • Chemicals • Manual Handling • UV radiation • Sharps • Electricity

  17. Safety • Chemicals • NO food, drink or smoking is allowed in laboratory areas • Be careful handling chemicals, use appropriate protection • Use appropriate procedures to dispose of waste liquid • Use shatterproof solvent and waste vessels or an additional spill tray • Keep drain tube above liquid in waste vessel

  18. Safety • Manual Handling of Heavy Instruments Instruments and accessories are heavy: • Ask for assistance when lifting • BEND your knees when lifting and keep your back straight • Use trolleys and wheels when possible to move objects

  19. Safety • UV Radiation • Hazardous UV light is radiated by Xenon lamps and Deuterium lamps • ALWAYS wear approved safety glasses (UV absorbing) • Operate instrument with covers in place

  20. Safety • Sharps • Do not attempt to change or remove tubes or trays for auto samplers or fraction collectors while the transport is in motion • Never place fingers behind probe assemblies while a movement may take place • Before servicing the transport mechanism, make sure the fraction collector is unplugged and turned off

  21. Safety • Electricity • NEVER work on high voltage circuits alone • NEVER override safety interlocks where applicable • Do not remove protective barriers unless absolutely necessary • NEVER reach around live high voltage circuits • Use one hand when working on high voltage circuits • Do not depend on safety devices to protect you

  22. Safety • Electricity • Use correctly rated meter probes for high voltage measurements • NEVER leave exposed energised high voltage circuits unattended • Set up test equipment with power off • NEVER rush, take short-cuts or allow yourself to become distracted • Use fault tags appropriately

  23. Safety • In General • Familiarize yourself with locations of safety equipment such as Fire Extinguisher/Blankets, Eye Wash Station, First Aid kit, Spill clean-up equipment • Familiarize yourself with locations of Circuit Breakers, Earth Leakage protected Outlets • Familiarise your self with all Exits
