  13. BACKGROUND • ACC CHIEFS MEETING - 1996 – BEGINNING OF AIR TRAFFIC STUDIES AND STATISTIC DATA COLLECTION • SAT 6 MEETING - 1996 - FIRST PROPOSALS FOR RNP AND RVSM IMPLEMENTATION – ADOPTION OF 10’ LONGITUDINAL SEPARATION WITH MNT (MAY 1997)

BACKGROUND • 1999 – Reduction of the longitudinal separation to 10 minutes ( Mach number technique) in the oceanic airspace. • Oct. 2001 – Unification of the oceanic airspace >> FIR-AO/ACC-AO. • RNP 10 - Reduction of the lateralseparation to 50 NM. • RVSM - Reduction of the vertical separation to 1000 feet.

ATLANTIC FIR Configuration approved at CAR/SAM3 Oct-99 1st Phase Implementation - SEP 2001 • OBJECTIVES • To optimize means of communication, navigation and surveillance, fundamentally based on satellites, centralized in a single ATC organ (ACC - Atlantic), due to the peculiar characteristics of the oceanic airspace. (CPDLC/ ADS/ GNSS) • ATCCapacity Improvement • To meet air traffic projected demand for the EUR/SAM corridor • Utilization of aleatory routes (longitudinal separation : 80NM-50NM-30NM RECIFE Atlantic ACC

  33. CONCLUSION Brazil is fully committed to provide a high standard of air navigation services to all users. Brazil is also fully committed to the new CNS/ATM systems implementation and is working towards to reach the related ICAO common goals. Finally, Brazil wishes to take part in joint efforts with other countries on the research, development, industrialization, implementation and operation of the elements of the new systems.
