  2. 1. Monarchy • A political system in which a country is ruled by a monarch, who has absolute control. (king, queen, emperor, pharaoh)

  3. 2. Direct Democracy • A form of democracy in which political power is exercised by the citizens without representatives acting of their behalf.

  4. 3. Republic • A political process in which the people control the government through elected representatives. (also called an indirect democracy)

  5. 4. Theocracy • A government under the control of a Church or state-sponsored religion; often with a leader believed to have divine guidance

  6. 5. Archaeologist • A person who studies the remains of a culture (fossils, relics, monuments, and artifacts left by past civilizations)

  7. 6. Historian • A person who studies events of the past.

  8. 7. Anthropologist • A person who studies human beings; especially their physical characteristics, their origin, their environment, their social relations, and their culture

  9. 8. Geologist • A person who studies the history of the Earth and its life as recorded in rocks and rock layers.
