  1. Who is Harmed When Christians Forsake Worship?

  2. Introduction The Bible teaches that we are not forsake the assembling ourselves together but we are to encourage one another as we see the Day of Judgment approaching (Heb. 10:23-25). We are to be the salt of the earth and light of the world but how can we be that good influence if we aren’t here to worship God (Mt. 5:13ff)? In this study from God’s word, we will examine who is harmed when Christians fail to worship as they should.

  3. The Absent Christian is Harmed When He Habitually Fails to Worship It is a sign that he is drifting away from fellowship with God (Heb. 2:1-3; 10:36-39). He begins losing his appetite for spiritual food which sustains his soul (1 Pet. 2:1-3; Mt. 5:6). He is in danger of hardening his heart and testing God (Ps. 95:6ff; Heb. 3:12-15). He is in sin and needs to repent. (James 4:17; 5:16)

  4. Other Christians are Harmed When We Forsake Assembling with the Saints An empty seat means that you are not here to encourage the saints and can be a stumbling block to others (Heb. 10:23-24; Gal. 5:7-9). It can be especially harmful to children, new converts, and weak members (Mt. 18:5-7). How many souls have been lost and will be lost because Christians have neglected their responsibility to encourage the saints through their attendance (cf. Heb. 2:3)?

  5. The World is Harmed When We Forsake Assembling with the Saints Our light to the world has gone out so that they won’t see a way out of the spiritual darkness. (Matt. 5:14-16; 2 Cor. 3:2; 4:4) There will be more evil in the world who can corrupt other individuals to sin. (2 Tim. 3:13; 1 Cor. 15:33) The world may be more emboldened to speak out against the church Christ died for and destroy her influence in the community.

  6. Deity is Harmed When We Forsake Assembling with the Saints If we continue sinning willfully by habitually forsaking the assembling of ourselves together (Heb. 10:26-31)… “…We trample under foot the Son of God” “…We regard as unclean the blood of the covenant by which we are sanctified” We have “insulted the Spirit of grace”. This ought to terrify us (Heb. 10:27, 31).

  7. Conclusion God is to be reverenced, praised, and exalted by our worship to Him who has done so much for us and sent His Son to die for our sins. Forsaking the assembling of ourselves together will not only destroy our own soul, but can also hurt our family, friends, and brethren. We could have also helped to save souls in the world if we had remained faithful to Christ. If you have forsaken the Lord in your attendance, you can confess your sins (James 5:16).
