  1. Blog 4: Globalrefininggroup.com ROLE OF A CATALYTIC CONVERTER According to several environmental researches and studies, passenger vehicles are the biggest source of air pollution. These vehicles produce highly toxic substances such as heavy amount of nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide, and other substances, which make the environment polluted. These substances are the major contributor of environmental pollution. Vehicles add carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxides, as well as hydrocarbons, which diminish the overall air quality. However, it is possible to stop such pollution by installing highly advanced catalytic converters. A catalytic converter helps in reducing the total amount of harmful pollutants. Role of a catalytic converter A catalytic converter simply takes these harmful gases and converts them into water vapors as well as less harmful gases. It uses a special chemical reaction with the help of certain precious metals to convert these toxic gases. This converter is fitted to the exhaust to produce less harmful gases. Platinum, palladium and rhodium are used in the catalytic converters to start the chemical reaction in the chamber, which helps in converting the extremely toxic gases into the less toxic gases. Here, Carbon monoxide (CO- it is a colorless, odorless, and tasteless gas) and hydrocarbons are broken down and converted into carbon dioxide and water. Catalytic converters are highly efficient when it comes to controlling toxic gases. It works tirelessly and significantly reduces the rate of air pollution. It not only helps in improving engine’s performance, but also enhances the condition of your car. It helps in reducing health risks As health risks and respiratory disorders (such as asthma) are rising at a rapid rate; it is important to keep the air clean and breathable. By utilizing the catalytic converters, it is possible to repair the damage to some extent and reduce the chances of life-threatening conditions like cancer or premature deaths of children.
