  1. Article2: Globalrefininggroup.com Air Pollution And Catalytic Converters What is pollution? In simple words, pollution is making air, soil, water etc dangerously dirty and unsuitable for people to use. Pollution is predominantly a human manufactured problem caused by human waste material, for example release of toxic gases, agriculture pollutants like chemical fertilizers and pesticides, deforestation, dumping of chemical, nuclear, and industrial waste in water bodies and open grounds etc. Pollution in many ways has changed our lives, and has led to an environmental crisis worldwide. Has the increased level of pollution ever worried you? No? Still ignorant? Then digest this. Recently, scientists obtained data from global atmospheric study, which says that every year over 3 million people die due to pollution from different sources and over next few years, this figure will elevate by three times. And one of the main contributing kinds of pollution is air pollution. So what pollutes our air? It’s us! Our vehicles, our factories, our space exploration quests and the list are endless! It’s like we are trying to kill ourselves and others, or simply say both suicide and genocide. The main causes of air pollution are automobiles, thermal power plants, and industries. Air pollution has become a serious problem for both – developed and developing nations! Smog released by automobiles singularly causes unimaginable damage to the air in which we breath. In 1952, massive smog in London killed around 4000 people, and effected countless. Likewise, recently in Peoples Republic of China, government had to uplift a red alert in 10 of its cities with heavy industrial outfits including its capital Beijing, for being highly polluted because toxic particulate emission had exceeded the dangerous mark limit, making air unfit and highly hazardous to breathe. The smog even reduced the visibility to such an extent that people were advised not to drive, or go to school and work and stay inside their homes. Air pollution is a notable risk factor for numerous health conditions including respiratory and heart disorders, cancer and strokes. It may also worsen existing respiratory and cardiac conditions. They effects of air pollutant may lead to more frequent hospital visits, dependence on medication and even premature deaths. How an individual’s system reacts to the effect of pollution depends on the nature of pollutant and the degree of exposure that he/she’s exposed to, some may have minor respiratory irritation and some may need to visit emergency room. We can’t control everything, but at least we can do something for our environment, say vehicles. Researchers say that main source of the most killer kind of air pollutants such as fine toxic particles and oxides of carbon are emitted through vehicles; and this emission levels enhances when some impure form of fuel is used! But of course we can’t give up using vehicles in this fast paced world, that’s just foolish; but we should do what we can! We can at least install a proper catalytic converter to our car in order to minimize particulate emission.
