  1. The Case of the Missing Millionaire Writing Options

  2. WRITING PROMPTS: Choose 1 • The Detective’s Report… Write from the viewpoint of the detective who investigated the case, explaining what probably happened. Be sure to back up your conclusions with “solid evidence.” Be sure to include a name on your report.

  3. WRITING PROMPT: Choose 1 • In The Local News… Write out your version of what happened as a story in the newspaper, or an in-depth report on the evening news. Again, make sure you include solid evidence from the crime scene. Remember to be a responsible journalist and distinguish facts and evidence from people’s opinions or allegations. For example, in writing about a suspect, the word “alleged” or “suspected” should be used.

  4. WRITING PROMPT: Choose 1 • A Suspect Talks… Write from the point of view of one of the suspects. Use solid evidence from your data collection and analysis. Be sure to include inferences about what may have happened, who else might have done it, and what their motive might be for committing the crime. You should write with a developed “character voice” that sounds like the suspect is “talking.” Be creative and include surprise twists and turns.

  5. WRITING PROMPT: Choose 1 • Court Talk…. Pretend that you are the one to record the proceedings at the trial of this case. You will need to create conversations and dialogue that script what was said by the suspect, witnesses, judge, lawyers, and the final verdict of the jury. Be sure to include solid evidence that was collected. You should also let the reader know clearly who is speaking and what they are saying. Create distinct “voices” for your characters so that we understand their personalities.
