  1. Writing to Review Paper 2 writing skills

  2. Writing to review • Reviewing requires you, once again, to analyse/break down a given topic to uncover, consider and discuss its key parts. Reviews require writing that is lively and authoritative and which shows good judgment and careful consideration. • A review is usually written as a magazine or newspaper article with a media audience in mind, i.e. a general adult audience. It's usually subject is a film or TV programme. • Reviews require a friendly, lively yet also authoritativestyle. This requires some skill as it combines standardEnglish with careful use of appropriate colloquiallanguage. • To read some excellent film reviews that will show you this style in action.

  3. OBJECTIVE Vs SUBJECTIVE • By its nature, all writing must, to some degree, reflect its writer’s attitude towards the topic. That is, writing will always contain at least some subjective qualities. When it’s important to reduce the subjectivity of a piece of writing, such as in an explanation, this natural personal bias can be reduced by providing a variety of different points of view.

Why and or not? Try and persuade the audience to either watch it or not. • Would you want to see more of Simon’s cat?
