Huxley’s Message Any government will try to use technology to control society.
“Surprisingly, as every one thought (for on soma-holiday Linda was most conveniently out of the way), John raised objections” (156). • This quote supports the fact that society is can be controlled using technology because the soma that is being described is being used to suppress the opinion of Linda. Dr. Shaw, Linda’s doctor, claims that the soma is good for her because she can no longer feel pain that she has been feeling for a good part of her life. However, Dr. Shaw does not ask for her opinion. Additionally, he does not do so when John asks to stop her soma-holiday. The use of soma is not limited to Linda, but it can suppress the opinion of anybody, giving the government control of society through technology.

When she remembers what was sleep taught to her, she obeys it without question, and for that reason she can be forced to believe absurd things. Her government essentially controls her mind because they takes advantage of being able to teach her anything. It is impossible to resist the sleep conditioning because of how early the government starts to use hypnopaedia on them. This means that the government can teach whatever they want to whomever they want, giving them control over society.
“Mind-Reading Technology” “A team of world-leading neuroscientists has developed a powerful technique that allows them to look deep inside a person's brain and read their intentions before they act. “ • This article supports Huxley’s claim because the article talked about how the government might use technology to spot possible criminals and terrorists. This will allow the government to spot criminals before they actually commit the crime. The article shows that the government will soon have the ability to control people’s thoughts to a limited extent if this ever comes into existence.
The existence of Red Light Cameras support the fact that the government will use technology to control society. Before Red Light Cameras existed, the government could only control the intersections where a police car is. Now, cameras can be used in place of them, which will catch people more often, and therefore the government can control people better.
The lack of internet privacy can be abused, and society can be controlled by the government if the government looks at the information, which supports Huxley’s claim. The government can also take advantage of what web sites are on the internet. For example, China denies access to sites that criticize its government. Because the internet is slowly replacing libraries, the government can control the flow of information when the internet is relied on alone. It is harder to track what books people have because information does not have to travel through government owned technology.
“Sound as a Weapon” “This message can be sent to only one person in a room filled with people, or while the person is just lying in bed. The message can be sent from the same house or the house next door. The ultrasonic waves will travel through walls of a house with little loss before combining to produce the audible message. “ • This article supports Huxley’s claim that the government will abuse technology to control society because the article speculates the United States army using sound as a weapon. Using sound as a weapon can incapitate, kill, or confuse people, but it does not leave any signs of injury. This makes it easy for anybody, including any government, to deny the use of the weapon. Also, using sound as a weapon allows the government to possibly use the weapon without resistance from its people or another country, because they will never know that such a weapon was used.
This image shows that all calls are recorded and saved at the NSA, or the National Security Agency, which is owned by the government of the United States. The NSA will try to catch phone calls that they suspect is from terrorists. This means that they are trying to control society through the use of technology, and therefore support Huxley’s claim.
