  2. What is Minecraft? Mincraft is a sandbox building game made by Mojang AB and more specifically and originally Markus Persson (aka Notch.) The game involves the player creating and destroying various types of 3D cubes that make up the world and using tools to form amazing structures. Minecraft includes a single player offline mode and an online server mode in which players can build and share there creations all over the world.

  3. Here are some examples of creations in Minecraft Minecraft fan trailer Note block portal “still alive” Huge Train Station

  4. How Mincraft is educational • Minecraft provides a wide range of jobs to do such as: miner, logger, shopkeeper, builder, adventurer etc. • It also teaches people to work by yourself and together in a group in an online environment. • Minecraft also allows the players to create all the jobs in the game and players have to think of the shapes that will need to use for the buildings. • Minecraft also presents the opportunity to create your own community and work to together to gather resources and build. minecraft in school- student work

  5. How we believe Minecraft will fit into our school We believe that Minecraft will be a great addition to the subjects at our high school. It will help students to learn and work together in an online environment. We have also done some research and have found that minecraft as a subject would fill in many of the gaps in the ICT curriculum checklist for grade 9/10s that would usually not covered by other ICT subjects. Here are some examples: “Modify strategies and solve complex problems when playing interactive educational games.” “effective use of a simulation tool and discuss its application to ‘real world’ contexts” “Participate in an online community such as a forum as an inquiry strategy.”

  6. Joel Levin AKA the Minecraft teacher Joel Levin is a computer teacher at a private school in New York who has been using Minecraft in his classroom. He has been using Minecraft to teach 1st and 2nd graders not only how to work together a virtual environment, but also real world concepts like closing doors behind you, respecting other peoples property and stranger danger.

  7. Student Survey

  8. This is why we think Minecraft should be a subject at our high school. What do you think? Any questions?
