Arctic fox . By Mimi Lavin. Physical features . I am usually 2.3 to 3.5 feet long. I weigh 6.5to 21 pounds. And like all dogs, I have a nose that is about 2 inches long. Our ears are about 1 inch tall. Why? Minimize heat loss. Lifespan.

  2. Physical features • I am usually 2.3 to 3.5 feet long. • I weigh 6.5to 21 pounds. • And like all dogs, I have a nose that is about 2 inches long. • Our ears are about 1 inch tall. Why? Minimize heat loss

  3. Lifespan • I am endangered and that gives me a smaller life. • I am endangered by humans . • But I only live for about 3 to 12 years anyway.

  4. Habitat • I like to live in the northern areas. • It’s usually snowy. • I am found through the Arctic Tundra , Alaska , Canada , Greenland , Russia , Norway , and Iceland .

  5. Climate In winter , you better pack your coat! • When winter comes , its -34°C and can be way colder . • In the summer its below 10° C. And you can count on it snowing . • I bet your asking if it will rain . That’s only in the summer.

  6. Landform • White covers the land . But it will be green in just a couple months . • That’s when summer starts . But now it is winter .I see a polar bear on the ice . • I see an arctic hare on that mound of snow over there . Yum! • I am looking out of my den . It is a hole underground .

  7. Food • Meat is my favorite treat .That means I am a carnivore • I love the arctic hare and the lemming .My fur and legs help me get dinner • Why ?My fur helps me camouflage so my prey doesn't see me .And my legs help me leap to catch my prey . • The bad thing is I don’t have pack members to help me .

  8. Prey and Predator • I'm not exactly at the top of the food chain • Polar bears are above me • Lemmings ,fish and arctic hares are below me • People are at the top

  9. Behavior • I don’t always hunt for my food. • I am a scavenger. This is something I do to survive . • I usually scavenge after polar bears because its hard for me to catch seals . • The polar bear kills ,eats ,goes away. • Then I come in and eat the rest.

  10. Reproduction • We start to mate in early spring . • Then we give birth 50 days later . • We have kits . • You can get about 4 to 11 kits .

  11. Physical • I am white .But wait! I am brown too. • Except I am only brown in the summer and white in the winter . • Why? That helps me blend in so no one can see me . • I have pads on my feet. • That helps me walk on ice and snow. • It also helps me be able to walk on rough surfaces.

  12. Behavioral • Oh no! A polar bear! Just kidding. • But when a predator comes I have to see if its weak. • If it isn’t, run. • If it is, I stay and fight. • I`ll usually win if its very weak but it’s not likely. • Sly is another thing I use to catch my prey. • Creeping is what I do. That helps me catch my prey. • Creeping also helps me escape my predator.

  13. Physiological • My huge teeth help me eat and kill my prey . • I sink my teeth into the animal and kill . • I use my teeth again to rip it apart and eat . • Viola! I get dinner . • Our bones help. • Bones are just like metal . • If you leave them out for a long time, they rust.

  14. Fun facts • We are part of the dog family • I have hair on my feet • My tail is like a furry blanket • My fur changes color • I don’t hibernate • My scientific name is Alopex Lagopus

  15. Word wise • Kits-Arctic fox babies • Carnivore-something that only eats meat • Scavenger-an animal that eats after the predator • Den-a hole in the ground
