Letters to Zlata - Vocabulary • waged – (verb)to carry on or continue a battle or argument. • Some of my classmates are going through a war waged on innocent kids just trying to grow up. • gleam – (noun) small beam or glow of light • Ms. Gruwell had a gleam in her eye. • intention – (noun) a purpose or goal; aim • I don’t think that it was her intention to actually send the letters to Zlata. • jazzed – (verb) to add liveliness or excitement to something. • I began to write a warm invitation and jazzed it up with graphics. • sniper – (noun) a person who attacks with a rifle from a hidden place. • In your diary you said you watched out for snipers and gunshots. • opportunity – (noun) an appropriate or favorable time to achieve a goal. • I would like the opportunity now to educate people on what is happening in my “America” . • undeclared – (adj.) not publicly announced or acknowledged • Until this “undeclared war” has ended, I am not free.
