  1. How Do NSW Residents Benefit from State Infrastructure Projects? geosurv.over-blog.com/2019/12/in-this-article-we-ll-discuss-a-few-of-the-nsw-government-infrastructure- projects-particularly-those-in-newcastle-sydney-and-how-res In this article, we’ll discuss a few of the NSW government infrastructure projects particularly those in Newcastle & Sydney and how residents are expected to benefit from them. Moreover, we’ll also tackle how construction industry professionals (surveyors, to be exact) contribute to ensuring the said benefits are enjoyed. Sydney ● Sydney Metro — Among the various Sydney infrastructure projects is the Sydney Metro. Once completed, it will include: 1. A brand new cancer centre; 2. an expanded emergency department; and 3. improved neonatal intensive care, maternity & critical care. ● Waterloo Estate Redevelopment — Communities Plus — This redevelopment project will create both new social housing & more affordable & private housing. Particularly, its Preferred Masterplan states the following: 1. Development of about 6,800 new homes; 2. new multi-purpose community facilities for social, cultural & healthcare use; and 3. three hectares of safe open spaces. The Newcastle & Sydney infrastructure projects stated here are only a few of the projects mentioned by the government. You can check the State government website for the full list. Surveyors behind the scenes As we’ve mentioned earlier, this article also discusses how government infrastructure project surveyors help ensure residents enjoy the said benefits. How? It all boils down to providing other construction industry professionals with critical data as planning & 2/3

  3. construction progresses for each infrastructure. NSW infrastructure surveyors perform different types of surveys to provide the said data. During planning & design Prior to construction, the said surveys include a detail survey & a set-out survey. A detail survey report states all the features within the concerned area like vegetation, elevations & utilities. Armed with this information, the project team can conduct the best planning & design suitable for the area. Then once the design is finalised, surveyors perform a set-out survey. Here, they put up key points using markers on the area to be developed. These markers are critical since they serve as a guide for builders during the construction phase. During construction Government infrastructure project surveyors continue to provide critical information during construction. One of these is supporting documentation for any variation claims like changes in design. After construction Once construction is done for each infrastructure, NSW surveyors conduct an as-built or Work As Executed (WAE) survey. This ensures that the work completed was according to the approved design. Final words With all things said, residents can really enjoy various benefits with each infrastructure. NSW government infrastructure projects will indeed contribute to the overall improved quality of life of its citizens. That said, surveyors along with other construction industry professionals contribute to guaranteeing that each infrastructure delivers. And this, in turn, ensures that the benefits promised are enjoyed. 3/3
