  2. Conservatism The belief that government should remain the same, that change is bad, monarchies, led by Absolute Kings & royal families should rule the land to provide peace & stability… Metternich

  3. Liberalism The belief that government should intervene and help the middle class and poor by reforming laws to help the masses, equality and limited democracy were the answers… Reform Acts

  4. Capitalism The belief that government should stay out of the economy (laissez faire) and that the free market system is the best way to run the finances of a nations…the law of supply & demand, private ownership, and the invisible hand… Adam smith

  5. Socialism The belief that government should intervene and provide FREE help or assistance to the poor, needy and disadvantaged…public school, public health, public employment, and some wealth are to be shared by the people Charles fourier

  6. Communism The belief that all of the factors of production (land, labor, capital) should be owned and run by the government (Command Economy) and that all of the wealth should be shared and distributed evenly with all…according to their need Karl marx

  7. Romanticism • A movement that began as a reaction to reason (Classicism), focused on feelings, emotions, love of nature, hope for the future, falling in love with life… William

  8. Realism A movement that began as a reaction to Romanticism, focused on telling the truth of the horrors of Industrial society, the poverty, crime, homelessness, & evils of Industrial society… Charles Dickens

  9. Nationalism The feeling of intense national pride and love of nation and willingness to fight to defend its honor, sacrifice and die for it if necessary… My Race, My People!

  10. Imperialism The belief in taking over a weaker people’s land and exploiting them for financial gain…in the name of humanitarian motives of course! White mans burden

  11. Militarism The belief that war is to be glorified as the only option to settling disagreements and hostilities between the nations, and a belief in amassing large sums of weapons in case of war… Might is right

  12. Fascism • An ideology started by Mussolini that placed the state above the individual where everyone was expected to sacrifice for the good of their country before themselves and families… Mussolini

  13. Totalitarianism A belief that complete control, both public and private of the people of a country is necessary to creating loyalty, devotion and national strength… stalin

  14. Nazism • Hitler’s philosophy of racism, Aryan superiority, hatred of the Jews & communists, Third Reich World domination, and totalitarian control of its citizens… Adolf hitler

  15. Isolationism • The philosophy that a nation should stay out of the business and battles of other nations of the World…to mind their own business at home, to never take sides, to stay out of it, and to never sell weapons during times of War… United states
