  1. The National Junior Honor Societyat Somerset Academy

  2. What is NJHS? • The five pillars of NJHS are character, scholarship, leadership, service, and citizenship. • Our members act in accordance with these five pillars at all times.

  3. How We Help • NJHS volunteers in service projects that help both our school and community. • We serve in two ways: individually and as a group. • We can hold fundraisers in order to donate money and/or supplies to those in need.

  4. Meetings Members must attend 2 mandatory meetings a month. NJHS typically meets from middle school dismissal until elementary dismissal.

  5. Expectations • Act in accordance with the five pillars. • Maintain a cumulative 3.5 grade point average. • Attend mandatory meetings. • Complete 12 hours of service per semester.

  6. NJHS membership is not automatically granted. There is a selection process.

  7. Application Packet 1. Character Essay 2. Leadership and Service List 3. Teacher Evaluation Forms 4. Community Member Evaluation 4. Return the Application Packet on time and with Signatures

  8. Due Dates • The essay, leadership and service list, community member evaluation, and the application packet are due on or before Friday, May 2nd to either Ms. G or the front office. 2. Teacher evaluation forms are due on Friday, May 2nd(make sure the teachers receive the evaluations this week). Teachers will return these to the front office or to Ms. G

  9. Opportunity • As a member of NJHS there are opportunities for scholarships. • Membership in NJHS is a great reference when applying to schools. • Although being a part of NJHS does not guarantee initiation into NHS in high school, it is certainly regarded as a positive point.
