  1. ICE SKATING HOME ICE HOCKEY FIGURE BIOS Ice skating is a popular winter sport, as well as a mode of transportation. There are many forms of competitive ice skating. Ice skating involves wearing specialized skating shoes, usually with a single blade, and skating around on an icy area, such as an ice rink or frozen body of water. Skilled ice skaters can execute complex jumps and other movements, while beginners often find themselves flat on the ice more frequently than they would like.

  2. ICE HOCKEY tricks & tips HOME ICE HOCKEY FIGURE BIOS about ABOUT Today, Ice hockey is an Olympic sport and the most popular team sport played on ice. Ice hockey is played with two opposing teams wearing ice skates. Unless there is a penalty, each team only has six players on the ice rink at a time. The aim of the game is to knock the hockey puck into the opposing team's net. The net is guarded by a special player called the goalie. Ice hockey is a fast, exciting and energetic activity.

  3. ICE HOCKEY tricks & tips HOME ICE HOCKEY FIGURE BIOS about TRICKS & TIPS • One of the most important stickhandling basics is to always keep your head up. You've got to be able to be aware of what's happening around you on the ice without looking at the puck. If you're staring at the puck while stickhandling, you're likely to be checked by somebody you didn't even know was near you. • To many players only use the stick as their tools. I consider myself to have three sticks on the ice at all times. You can hold a puck between your feet easier then any stick and they are great tools to stop even the most complex deke. This is one skill you should always master. 

  4. FIGURE SKATING tricks & tips HOME ICE HOCKEY FIGURE BIOS about ABOUT Figure skating is one of the most popular sports in the world. The combination of grace and athleticism captures the imagination when world-class skaters "make it look so easy." Of course, figure skating at the world level is anything but easy. It requires years of discipline, training and practice. It is an expensive sport and one in which serious injury is possible. Today, figure skating looks like the perfect blend of power and beauty. In the Olympic structure, there are ladies', mens' and pairs competitions, along with ice dancing. Each competition is a little different, and makes different demands on the skater. In the individual competitions, strong emphasis has lately been placed on the spectacular jumps the skaters perform, and their athleticism.

  5. FIGURE SKATING tricks & tips HOME ICE HOCKEY FIGURE BIOS about TRICKS & TIPS • Edges • Standing on the inside edge tends to make you go a circle inwards, across the body, i.e. a RI (right inside) edge curves you to the left. An outside edge takes you on a curve out, so RO edge curves you to the right. Edges are backwards (B) or forwards (F). • Mohawks • The easiest mohawk is from a FI edge of one foot to a BI edge on the other. • This clip shows a RFI-LBI mohawk. • When doing a mohawk, do not think that the skates need to be in line with each other. The mohawk is carried out on a curve and the skate being put down backwards can be at about 90 degrees to the one which was going forwards. • Three-turns • These change from forward to backwards (or backwards to forwards) on one foot, changing edge at the same time. Again, don't forget they are performed on a curve, not a straight line. Here is the tracing for a right forward outside (RFO) 3-turn.  davecurtis.net
