The side of Mercury that is facing the sun is boiling hot , at750 degrees , and the side that faces away from the sun is freezing cold , at -328 degrees.   6. Mercury has no atmosphere . The surface of Mercury is covered in craters and completely dry , therefore there is no possibility of life there . The craters that cover Mercury are unusually deep pits , sometimes 7 miles deep . Mercury’s axis has the smallest tilt, about 1/30 of a degree .
