  1. 3rdGradeCurriculum! Miss Keenan 2011-2012

  2. Handwriting • Students start the year reviewing manuscript writing • Move to cursive when ready! May have occasional handwriting homework.

  3. Math • Pre-test, quizzes, and final test • Math Contract (learning independence, self-thinking and responsibility) • Nightly Homework • Tests will need to be signed and sent back to school • Objectives taught: multiplication, division, fractions, time, measurement, and problem solving

  4. Spelling/Phonics • “CLOVER” • Phonics helps with spelling and reading • Spelling homework Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday nights are a good way to practice the spelling words! • TEST Fridays

  5. Writing/English • 6-traits writing • Learn many different types of writing (fiction, research, how-to, poem, etc) • Will learn to have group/teacher conferences • Introduction to the parts of speech • Complete “Daily language review” problems • Occasionally may have an English worksheet to complete at home

  6. Homework • Can be found in the RED folder each night, in the planner, or on my website! • Math worksheet • Practice spelling words and dictation paragraph (Test Friday) • Practice vocabulary words (Test Friday) • Read 15 minutes per night • Students should be spending 30 minutes on homework each night. • Check GREEN folder on Fridays

  7. Planners • Planners should be signed each night • Student’s behavior for the day is colored/written on his or her planner • Students start the day on green. After two warnings students move to yellow, orange, then red. Students can also move up (blue, purple, PINK)!

  8. How can you help?? • Scholastic Book Wizard! • Handout to help ask your child questions about their reading each night • Math and Spelling Homework! • Encourage Book-it!
