State Agency Models - SAM • There are three SAMs • Mountain Plains States’ Consortium- Colorado, Wyoming and Utah • Crossroads in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast Regions- North Carolina, Alabama, Virginia and West Virginia • Successful Partners in Reaching innovative Technology (Spirit)- 13 Indian Tribal Organizations in Oklahoma and New Mexico

  5. Missouri WIC SAM Grant Application Covansys came to Jefferson City on April 13, 2007 to show demonstration of SPIRIT for steering committee and other state WIC and ITSD staff Submitted grant on June 15, 2007 Grant was approved on September 13, 2007!!!

Included in Application (cont.) • Designated local agency staff can determine which screens staff have access to • System access log for local agencies • Specify up to 6 state-agency defined and 6 local agency-defined questions per participant for survey purposes • Microsoft Office is used to generate letters and other applications (e.g., could send letter to participants who missed appointments)

From Chickasaw Times August 2007 Article • The new SPIRIT system will benefit WIC participants by enabling WIC to adopt a paperless system that uses electronic signatures and scanning applications. This should mean less time on paperwork and more time with clients. The SPIRIT system will reduce client wait time. The new system also increases accuracy and reduces the risk of errors. SPIRIT has resulted in an overall streamlined operation of the WIC program. • The SPIRIT software is creating buzz among WIC agencies across the nation. According to Melinda Newport, the Chickasaw Nation has already been contacted by many states for additional information or on-site visits to experience this new software.
