  1. Welcome to TA

  2. Introductions

  3. We are… • …a school where liked-minded faculty, parents and children share similar values, ethics, goals, and educational outcomes. • We are passionate about education! • We are independent. • We are college preparatory.

  4. We… • …provide a "hidden curriculum" that fosters the development of integrity, character, perseverance, good study skills, career ambition, service and team work. • E.g., the backpack dilemma… • We are safe…

  5. Students can… • …participate in sports and other extra curricular activities, not generally as available in larger school environments, (and reap the life-long rewards of doing so.) • If they so choose, they can participate…

  6. Students will… • …be in very small classes, especially very small advanced classes, where individual attention is provided and prized not as an exception but as the rule. • Next to outstanding educators, the single most important element in maximizing an educational experience. • Current average class size 14:1 • Current teacher/student ratio 9:1

  7. We will… …provide strong and individualized college counseling

  8. Students will… • …develop a personal mentoring/advisory relationship with teachers who have a personal interest in each child and often build a lifetime of connections. • E.g., Senior interviews…

  9. Students will not… • …be invisible, nor will they slip through the cracks • There’s a place, and respect, for everyone… • everyone is cool…

  10. In summary…we are Academic Excellence Safe (hidden curriculum) Opportunities Individual Attention

  11. Or, THINK PLAY BELONG

  12. Who we are…more specifically • Every child, PS-12, receives formal instruction to learn a second language…

  13. Who we are…more specifically • Every child, K-12, can receive formal instruction in PE &/or athletics…

  14. Who we are…more specifically • Every child, PS-12, receives formal instruction in music and art…including a brand new strings program

  15. Who we are…more specifically Every child, PS-12, has the opportunity to be a part of innovative and unique technology initiatives…such as the extensive use of SmartBoard technology, across all divisions, and our 7-12 laptop program

  16. …we are also excited about three other differentiating programs this year • Upper School: TA Scholars • Middle School: Resource Teacher • Lower School Teaching Assistants (Grades 1-4)

  17. Some Hard Facts? • All this is wonderful…we think…but if we need to be more pragmatic we can point to empirical evidence that suggests the TA experience is worth every (after tax) penny.

  18. Thus, did you know… • Historically our graduation rate has been 100% • Our results on standardized tests like the ACT and SAT are among the highest in the state e.g., next slide • The slate of colleges our students attend is among the most impressive in the state • Perhaps, most important, our alumni come back and tell us again and again how well prepared they felt they were for their college experiencee.g., last slide.

  19. What you can expect…
