  2. What is DR-TA? Why was it designed? • Directed Reading – Thinking Activity • It’s designed to help students begin to take responsibility for their own learning during guided reading.

  3. What is DR-TA? Why was it designed? Procedure: • Direct students to read the title & brainstorm what the story might be about. Record the answers on the board. • Read 1st section. Ask students if their prediction was confirmed, rejected, or modified. Only the student who made the prediction may change his answer. • Repeat step 2 until the class has finished the reading. • Have students justify their predictions by having them think aloud.
