  2. Background Information • Fresh Step created this ad in 2009 to convince cat owners to switch to their cat litter. • It took many people to make this ad come to life. The main artist was Lisa Bennet. • It was first published by House, Garden, and Pets.

  3. Foreground What is in the foreground that appeals to the eye?

  4. Foreground • The cat is in the foreground of this picture. It draws the eye towards the purpose the cat has to the image. It shows that the cat has to pee which brings a sense of comedy.

  5. Background What effect does the background have on this image?

  6. Background • The background of the image is a home. This brings the homely feel of the cat being at home. The background also reveals that your cat wont be able to find the litter box at home because it smells so good.

  7. Balance What creates balance in the ad?

  8. Balance • The background of the home balances out the foreground of the cat. The rocking chair, window, and the rug balance out the cat in the middle of the page. Also the stance of the cat is balances out by the big rocking chair to the right and the smaller window to the left.

  10. Audience • The audience for this ad is attended to be cat owners. The fresh smelling cat litter leaves your home smelling clean. As portrayed in the ad, your home will not stink of cat litter anymore because with Fresh Step, not even your cat will be able to find its litter box.

  12. Ethos • The Fresh Step symbol at the bottom of the ad makes this ad credible.

  13. Pathos What is the emotional appeal?

  14. Pathos • The emotional appeal of this image is comedy. It is to create a sense of humor for the reader. It draws your eye with the potty stance of the cat.

  15. Logos What is the logical appeal of this image?

  16. Logos • The logical appeal to this image is the cat in a homely atmosphere. Most people know their house like the back of their hand, they know where everything is. So by the cat being at its house and cant find its litter box shows that the Fresh Step cat litter smells so good not even the cat can find it.
