PoetryTerms we Will study • Narrative Poetry-tells a story • Epic Poetry-Long Poem that tells a story • Lyric Poetry-expresses thoughts and emotions. • Sonnet-fourteen-line lyric poem (Shakespeare’s Sonnets) • Dramatic Monologue-when the speaker in the poem addresses the reader. • Ballad-song or poem that tells a story about love or sadness (Ballad of Birmingham).

Satire-a story or poem that is sarcastic and uses humor to criticize. 10. Haiku-Three-line Japanese Poem about nature (5-7-5). 11. Alliteration-repetition of initial consonant sounds. (Sally sells seashells by the seashore). 12. Imagery-when the words create a visual picture in your head.

Oxymoron- figure of speech that contains contradictory terms. (biggie smalls, jumbo shrimp, pretty ugly).
