  1. Mars Atmosphere and Volatile EvolutioN (MAVEN) Mission Particles and Fields Package Pre-Environmental Review May 22 -23, 2012 10 – EMC, Magnetics Dave Curtis, PFP Package Manager

  2. EMC Requirements ERD calls out the testing required at the package level as tailored for MAVEN: Bonding & Isolation In-rush CE01, CE03 CS101, CS115 RE102 RS103

  3. CE01,03 Narrowband test on each power service Extended to 100MHz Except heaters, actuators (but including MAG heater) Power, return, and common mode, plus structure current

  4. CS101, CS115 CS101 applied to each power service 30Hz – 150KHz Reduced amplitude to represent spacecraft bus Passive heaters tested in common CS115 applied to each power harness Except passive heaters

  5. RE102 14kHz to 10GHz LPW, Electra, Telecom notches

  6. RS103 14kHz to 10GHz 2V/m plus Electra, X-band Com Also survive C-band radars

  7. EMC Test Plans PFP EMC Test Proc MAVEN_PFP_TP_028 Bonding & Isolation, Inrush done at SSL, the rest at METLabs (subcontractor) The entire package will be tested together Including flight (SWIA, SEP, LPW, EUV) and flight-like (STATIC, SWEA, MAG, Spacecraft) harnesses

  8. EMC Test Configuration During Emissions tests, instruments will be configured in ‘Noisy’ mode Internal test pulsers on But HV off During Susceptibility tests, instruments will be configured in ‘quiet’ mode All instruments listening in most sensitive mode Instrument team monitoring telemetry for exceedances Low impedance supply instead of LISN to simulate S/C bus Instruments shall be bagged in EMC Transparent material and purged during testing Melinx; small (acceptable) RF attenuation per SDO EMC testing Static dissipative, non-metalic Low outgassing, particulate, surface contact, NVR per GSFC testing

  9. MAVEN PER DC MAGNETICS May 22 & 23, 2012 ~ 8AM-6PM May 24, 2012 ~ 8AM-11AM Addition Conference Room

  10. DC MAGNETICS Requirements (per ERD) All units, except SEP detectors should have a magnetic moment less the 25mAm2 All units, except SEP detectors should be exposed to a DC perm field of 16 Gauss. Test Flow (per MAVEN-PFP_TP_040)

  11. DC MAGNETICS Magnetic Moment Calculation Uses set up developed for THEMIS and STEREO. Can calculate dipole and quadrupole moment.

  12. DC MAGNETICS Perm and Deperm Uses single axis Helmholtz coil from Lindgren. DC supplies used for 16 Gauss perm field. AC supplies used for 1 Gauss max deperm field.
