  3. Frequently Asked Questions • When can I transfer? • Different schools have different policies. • Some schools require a minimum number of completed transfer hours. • Admissions deadlines vary from institution to institution. • Admissions officers at the desired school can advise you on this.

Frequently Asked Questions cont.. • What courses should I take before I transfer? • Take courses that lead to a college transfer degree (AA or AS) • What’s the difference between AA and AS degree? • (AA) want to pursue a 4-yr. degree in a liberal arts discipline (Psychology, Political Sci., Sociology) • (AS) want to pursue a 4-yr. degree in computer science, mathematics, engineers…..

Frequently Asked Questions cont.. • How can I determine if my courses will transfer? • View the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement @ cfnc.org. • The Comprehensive Articulation Agreement (CAA) • A statewide agreement that governs the transfer of credits between NC Community Colleges and NC Public Universities

  6. Frequently Asked Questions cont.. • Is it necessary to complete General Education Core before transferring? • It is not necessary but ADVISEABLE. • Students that don’t will have to complete the specific general ed. requirements of the college or university.

Frequently Asked Questions cont.. • Is admission to a UNC institution guaranteed? • YES, under the following stipulations: • Admission is not assured to a specific campus or program/major. • Students must have: • Graduated from a NC Community College with an AA or AS • Meet all requirements of the CAA • At least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale • Be eligible for readmission to last institution • Meet all application requirements of the receiving institution.

Frequently Asked Questions cont.. • How do the UNC Minimum Admissions Requirements (MAR) apply to transfer students? • Transfers will be considered to have completed the MAR if: • They received the AA or AS or • Completed the 44-hour CAA General Education Core • If the above requirements are not completed, high school GPA and SAT/ACT score will be used to determine eligibility.

Frequently Asked Questions cont.. • Will "D" or "F" grades transfer? • No, under the CAA, only courses in which a grade of "C” or higher is earned will transfer. • How many semester hours will transfer? • A maximum of 64 semester hours will transfer • When is it best to select a major? • As early as possible. The longer a student takes to decide on a major, the more likely it is that some of the courses taken may not apply to the major.

(CFNC Matching Assistant) • If you know your major, you need to make sure that major is offered. • What are your academic and professional ambitions? • If you know what your ambitions are and what your major will be, does the campus offer courses in that area? • Do you prefer attending a small campus versus a larger one? • Do you prefer a campus in a big city, or one that is in a rural community? • If you are into a particular sport or sports, does the campus offer it?

Frequently Asked Questions cont.. • Is a placement test needed when transferring to a university? • The university will decide if a placement test is needed upon transfer. • Most will use successful performance in English and mathematics at the community college as proof of skill level and will not require additional testing.
