Problem #1 The Berlin Wall • 0n August 20 1961, the Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev ordered the building of a 9 foot high, 96 mile long wall separating East and West Berlin in response to Kennedy’s refusal to remove American troops from West Berlin. • On June 26, 1963 Kennedy traveled to West Berlin and addressed the crowds. The speech came to be known as “Ich bin ein Berliner “

  5. In the Sierra Maestra Mountains 1957 Entering Havana victorious 1959 Fidel Castro led a revolution in Cuba which overthrew the corrupt US backed government of Fulgencio Batista. Castro established a communist system and allied Cuba with the Soviet Union.
