First Civil War • For the last five decades Sudan particularly South Sudan had been torn by two Civil Wars. • The first Sudanese Civil War also known as Anyanga one started in 1955 in these four cities Torit, Juba, Yei, and Maridi and ended 1972 Addis Ababa Agreement with a single Southern administrative region with defined powers. This war lasted 17 years, leaving half a million dead. Led by Joseph Lagua separatist leader.

  3. Second Civil War • Began 1983 in Blue Nile, Nuba Mountains, Southern Sudan, led by John Garang his first goal from beginning was to unite Sudan but when he realized it wasn't going to happen he had a change of heart. He then demanded separation. In 2005 Comprehensive Peace Agreement was signed after 22 years.

  4. Referendum Jan 09 to 15 2011 • South Sudan got its independence. • The Republic of South Sudan the newest and 54 state in Africa.
