  2. Long division can be very confusing, but it is easy if you remember the steps and ask yourself the right questions! ??????

  3. Look at the problem below. The question you should ask yourself is: 4)89 How many sets of 4 does it take to make 89????

  4. 89 is a big number, so let’s break it down into a simpler problem. 4)89 How many sets of 4 make 8?

  5. 2 4)89 2 sets of 4 make 8!

  6. Now you take away 2 sets of 4 from the 8. 2 4)89 -8 0 2 x 4 = 8

  7. Next we need to look at the 9.Bring down the 9. How many sets of 4 are in 9??? 2 4)89 -8 09

  8. Write 2 above the 9 to show that there are 2 sets of 4 in 9. 22 4)89 -8 09 There are 2 sets of 4 in 9!

  9. Now take away the two sets of 4 from 9, which is a total of 8. 22 4)89 -8 09 - 8 1

  10. You now have one left over. Since one is less than the divisor (4), it is a remainder. 22 4)89 -8 09 - 8 1

  11. Now you have completed your division problem. 22 r 1 4)89 -8 09 - 8 1
