    2. 2 The Sunon Super Green Fan uses five major innovative technologies. A three-phase motor design which increases motor efficiency and reduces power consumption. An inner-rotor design which reduces the vibration level during fan operation. An aerodynamic design for a better PQ curve and lower airflow noise. A sealed structure design which not only increases protection from environmental conditions such as water and dust, but also improves EMI issues. A special design which increase ball bearing cooling, resulting in an overall longer fan life. The Sunon Super Green Fan uses five major innovative technologies. 4. 4 Leveraging our core R&D capabilities, Sunon has worked to improve the fan efficiency of our products each year. Before 2007, our primary focus was the KD/KDE/PMD fan series which utilized a two phase motor. In 2008, we created the GM/ PSD fan series which utilized a single phase motor. In 2009, we developed the SG fan series which utilized a three-phase motor. The benefit of higher fan efficiency is that it results in lower power dissipation during fan operation.Leveraging our core R&D capabilities, Sunon has worked to improve the fan efficiency of our products each year. 5. 5 The Sunon SG fan series uses a three-phase motor to increase fan efficiency. A three-phase motor, when compared to either a single or 2-phase motor, can generate higher torque output and fan efficiency because of the overlap feature within the same rotating period. Also, the overlapped power output helps to minimize the power ripples and rotating vibration. The Sunon SG fan series uses a three-phase motor to increase fan efficiency. 6. 6 Sunon created a better fan structure for improving the airflow. Because we have a very strong motor, Sunon sought to reduce the hub diameter as much possible. For example, our new SG4028 has a hub diameter that is reduced about 3mm compared to our traditional PMD4028. By decreasing the size of the hub, we had more room for the impeller blades, thereby increasing the airflow output within the same 40x40x28mm size.Sunon created a better fan structure for improving the airflow. 7. 7 Utilizing Sunon’s plentiful design database, we concluded an optimal impeller design guideline. By keeping the outside diameter ratio of hub-to-impeller within the 50~60% range, the performance of the fan is optimized. With an outside diameter hub-to-impeller ration of 57%, the new SG4028 reaches this goal for better performance.Utilizing Sunon’s plentiful design database, we concluded an optimal impeller design guideline. 8. 8 At the same 19000 rpm, the Sunon SG4028 can reach a similar PQ curve as the traditional PMD4028 fan, but at a 51% reduction in power consumption. At the same 19000 rpm, the Sunon SG4028 can reach a similar PQ curve as the traditional PMD4028 fan, but at a 51% reduction in power consumption.

    9. 9 What is inner rotor design? The traditional fan design (which also includes our competitors) uses an external rotor structure. The external rotor’s magnet is always fixed on the yoke, which is combined with the impeller, so that the magnet is rotating outside of the stator. Sunon created the inner rotor structure which fixes the magnet on the rotating shaft, so that the magnet is rotating inside of the stator. What is inner rotor design? 10. 10 The Sunon SG4028 uses the inner rotor design to reduce the overall rotating vibration. The original external rotor has a total weight of rotating parts (shaft, impeller, magnet, yoke) of 13.2 grams. The newest SG4028 inner rotor has a total weight of rotating parts of 6.8 grams, which is a reduction in rotating mass 6.4 grams. This is the result of fewer and lighter weight parts that are contained within the rotating impeller. 11. 11 We used the same vibration test machine (picture in the upper right corner) for this comparison. The vibration test machine can measure the X-Y plane (horizontal plane) vibration, the Z-plane (vertical plane) vibration, and the total vibration energy. We randomly picked 20 samples of both PSD4028 and SG4028 from our production line, and set all fan speeds to 19000 rpm. Comparison of the vibration dates showed that the SG 4028, when compared to the PSD4028, had a reduction in vibration of ~60% in the X-Y plane, ~30% in the Z plane, and ~38% of total vibration energy. We used the same vibration test machine (picture in the upper right corner) for this comparison. The vibration test machine can measure the X-Y plane (horizontal plane) vibration, the Z-plane (vertical plane) vibration, and the total vibration energy. 12. 12 Sunon utilized a large CFD database to evaluate the optimal aerodynamics for the fan design. For the traditional 4028 (including our competitors), we would observe some side airflow leakage when the impeller is at ultra high speeds. This was able to occur because the vanes of the traditional frame design are just on the outside edge of the frame. For our new SG4028, we moved the vanes toward the inside the frame, so the airflow can be concentrated and directed within its flow path. 13. 13 Because of the better aerodynamic design of the SG4028, the airflow pattern is smoother and more laminar than the original 4028. Since the SG4028 has a more concentrated airflow and with minimized turbulence, we are able to reduce the acoustic noise of the fan while keeping the same airflow. 14. 14 If the customer’s primary focus is an increase in thermal performance, the SG4028 is an excellent choice. 16. 16 The left side of this image shows the traditional 4028, which has two major openings which can allow water and dust to enter into the motor structure. With the SG4028 model, Sunon has created a sealed motor structure which makes it difficult for water and dust to enter the motor structure or bearings. As a result, this design provides excellent IP protection. 18. 18 After the IP5X test on both the traditional 4028 fan and the SG4028 fan, we disassembled the fan samples and did a detailed visual inspection. We found that the motor coil was on the traditional fan was covered with dust, while the SG fan, due to its sealed structure, showed very little dust on the plastic gasket. 21. 21 For an easy understanding of the greater water proof capability of the SG4028 fan, Sunon performed this simple comparison test on the traditional 4028 fan and the SG4028 fan. Neither of the fan models contained the I55 coating on their internal PCBAs, which is commonly added to fans in order to give them water proof capability. The traditional fan quickly failed after submersion, as the coil and PCBA became wet. Our SG4028 can, however, continuously run fore about 2 hours after submersion. After the test, we inspected the coil, PCBA, and bearings and found them all to be dry. As of December 2009, our SG4028 officially passed the SGS lab approval for IP55 level. For an easy understanding of the greater water proof capability of the SG4028 fan, Sunon performed this simple comparison test on the traditional 4028 fan and the SG4028 fan. 22. 22 It is well-known that EMI waves can be easily shielded through the use of a protective metal material. The traditional fan’s impeller and frame were made of plastic, with only an internal metal yoke for side EMI shielding, so EMI waves were able to emit from the hub and bottom regions. The only choice for shielding in this design is to add additional electrical components onto the PCBA, which increases the cost of the fan. Our new SG fan includes a metal shield material over the entire motor, and so EMI waves cannot emit outside of the fan. 23. 23 Because the bearings in the traditional fan are enclosed in plastic, the internal heat from the bearings does not easily transfer out of the fan. Since the bearings in the new SG fan are enclosed in the metal yoke, the heat can more easily transfer through the metal yoke to the outside of the fan. This improved thermal transfer decreases the operating temperature of the ball bearings, which results in an extended fan life under similar conditions. 24. 24 ? Benefit 1:The life of the ball bearing is increased due to the lower ball temperature & loading. ? Benefit 2:The fan life is also extended due to the decreased weight of the rotor, since a lower rotating mass extends fan life. ?
