European Learning Laboratory for the Life Sciences (ELLS) LearningLAB- PRACTICAL COURSES FOR SCIENCE TEACHERS Challenging molecules EMBL September 19-21, 2005 Heidelberg • Challenging molecules brings cutting-edge science into the classroom by: • Illustrating to teachers why and how scientists study specific molecules with state-of-the-art techniques • Giving teachers the opportunity to perform experiments side by side with scientists to learn the “tricks of the trade” • Introducing teaching kits and educational games that provide teachers with material to present modern concepts and techniques in a proactive approach. • The programme will include: • Seminars by top EMBL scientists • Hands-on experiments on DNA and protein technologies • Visits to EMBL high-tech core facilities • Discovering Bioinformatics • A Science and Society discussion forum • Interactive educational activities • Who can attend the course? • All high-school science teachers are welcome. Course materials and catering will be free of charge. However, participants are expected to meet their own travel and accommodation costs. • The course will be open to 24 participantsonly. • An announcement of the course will be posted in June on the ELLS website under “LearningLAB”: • www.embl.de/ELLS/ • If you are interested in registering for the course please follow the instructions in the forthcoming • announcement.
