  3. Jamaican FACTS • The official language of Jamaica is English • People live in American type houses or huts • The Population is 2,651,000 • Jamaica is 4,244 square miles or as big as Maryland • The Jamaican currency is the Jamaican dollar.

  6. Rhumba Box • The rhumba box was made from left over material. A way it could be made is from scrap wood, packing boxes, and old clock springs to serve as keys. • The rhumba is a Mbira type of instrument that was popular in the Caribbean in the 1940’s an 50’s • This instrument was played by striking the keys to make a high yet low sound.

  7. Maraca • The maraca is a dried out gourd and the seeds or beans are what makes it have the rattling sound • The maraca is of prehistoric American origin. The word maraca came from tupi language of brazil • The maraca is played by shaking to make a rattling sound

  8. Steel Pan • The Steel Pan is made out of old oil pans. • It originated in the twin islands of Trinidad and Tobago located in the Caribbean. • It is played by hitting it with a stick-like object
