Notes: Vocabulary Terms • Image—it is what the original looks like after being transformed: • turned (rotate), • moved over (translate), • flipped (reflect), • bigger (enlarge), • smaller (reduce) or • the same (similar) • Stretch/Enlarge/Enlargement—bigger than the original (more than 100%) • Shrink/Reduce/Reduction—to make smaller than the original (less than 100%)

  5. Draw what the shape would look like if it is doubled in size. Then draw what it would look like it is was half the size.

  6. Notes: Vocabulary Terms • Corresponding sides- the matching sides of two different shapes that look alike but may not be the same size. • Ex. Side AB = Side PQ • Corresponding angles-the matching angles of two different shapes that look alike but may not be the same size. • Ex. Finding the Scale Factor-you have to know in which direction you are going in (from larger to smaller or smaller to larger image/figure) • From Bigger Image to Smaller Image (4:6 or 10:15): Divide the smaller number by the larger number • 4/6 = a scale factor of 2/3 or 662/3% • From Smaller Image to Bigger Image (6:4 or 15:10): Divide the larger number by the smaller number • 6/4 = a scale factor of 1.5 or 150% 6 4 10 15

  11. POD—11/05/09 • Jennifer Hudson wants to create a cool design for her baby’s room. Here is the basic pattern. What would one wall look like if she made 5 rows of 6? Use the graph paper to draw the completed design. Basic pattern Getting started

  12. Determine how many greendiamonds are created by this pattern. What is the ratio of green diamonds to the sun diamonds?

  13. First, fold your graph paper in to 3 equal parts (into thirds). Then, draw the rectangle in one part, the trapezoid in one art and the parallelogram in the one part. In each part, try to construct a similar figure that is larger than the one you drew. Example
