Vietnam and Coastal areas Southeastern Asia, Bordering the Gulf of Thailand, Gulf of Tonkin, and South China Coastline: 3260 km • High poverty density in the coastal areas (Red River and Mekong River Deltas) • Coastal zone is most vulnerable to natural disasters • Coastal ecosystems and biodiversity are badly degraded • High dependence on the coastal resources for livelihoods • Community conflicts and tensions are increasing

About MCD - Who we are MCD is a Vietnamese NGO established in 2003 devoted to marine conservation and coastal community development in Vietnam Mission We work to balance the needs of coastal communities with the needs of the coastal and marine environment to ensure a sustainable future for all. Vision By 2015, MCD strives to become a leading Vietnamese civil society organization tying together the effective management of coastal resources and enhancement of coastal community livelihoods through localizing relevant international knowledge and experience into adaptive practical models in the Vietnamese context.

  7. Red River Delta BR – interprovincial • 02 core zone: Xuan Thuy National Park, Nam Dinh and Tien Hai Nature Reserve, Thai Binh • Buffer zone and Transition zone: 05 district of 03 provinces (Nam Dinh, Thai Binh, Ninh Binh) • Corridor zone: Hai Hau district – Nam Dinh province

Recommendations • Mobilize the participation of stakeholders (government, community, private sector, NGOs, media) • Maintain and enhance the interest of leaders and community • Help adaptive livelihoods for communities • Raise continuous awareness • Pay attention to CC responding in Biosphere Reserve (BRs as approach)

Lesson learnt: Fisheries co-management in Xuan Thuy National Park - Clam raising Support to complete the aquaculture planning of Giao Thuy district with considering co-management pilot model 2008 2009 2012 Building cooperative groups, promoting the activities of the GiaoThuy krill associate. Legal normative Handbook in production and business aquaculture was conducted by Nam Dinh DONRE
