OBITUARY Dr Manas Nath Bandyopadhyay [LM-362] After graduating he completed his M.D. in Radiotherapy from Calcutta University acquiring the highest marks for that year with special mention for a brilliant dissertation. He joined as Cancer Centre Welfare Home & Research Institute (now known as Saroj Gupta Cancer Centre & Research Institute) , Thakurpukur, Calcutta in May 1983 as a Junior Registrar in the department of Radiotherapy and quickly worked his way up to become a consultant in 1990. He also worked at Christie Hospital, Manchester and Cookridge Hospital, Leeds (U.K.) for higher training and more skill development. As his interests grew in Cancer Epidemiology, Cancer Control and Cancer Registry , he became an important researcher of the National Cancer Registry Programme of India (NCRP), I.C.M.R. and also in-charge of special cell of the North-Eastern states of India. While working at SGCCRI he built the foundation of the Research Wing and was one of the pioneers in formulating the Ethical Committee and Statutory Research Bodies of the Institute as well as a member of the managing sub-committee of this Centre. He retired from SGCCRI in February 2015 as the Head of Research and left behind a legacy of large volumes of original work in Epidemiology and Population based Cancer Registry and proved to be an extremely trusted Professor cum guide for the DNB students with focus in Medical Statistics. Unfortunately Dr Bandyopadyay fell prey to Chronic Liver Disease and succumbed to his ailment on 8th September 2017 - peacefully at home. He leaves behind his wife Minoti (a qualified Gynaecologist) a daughter (Neelantana) and son Soumendra - both PhDs and highly accomplished in their fields and innumerable students, colleagues & admirers from different walks of life. Dr Bandyopadyay Born :19th February 1955; Died: 8th September 2017. We pray for their souls to rest in peace

17. Young Radiation Oncologists Forum • 6th YROF held in Udaipur by Dr. Shankar Vangipuram • The main conference was attended by more than150 delegates from across India. • 7th YROF to be held in North zone at Max hospital ,Delhi by Dr.Vineetagoyal 12-14 January , 2018

International collaborations AROI- ESTRO TEACHING COURSES ADVANCED TECHNOLOGIES • 4th AROI – ESTRO TEACHING course was held on Advanced Technology between 7th Dec – 10th by Dr SumitBasu at Ruby Hall Clinic, Pune. • 5th AROI-ESTRO course on Advanced technologies is to be held in Medanta Hospital, Delhi, 3-6 December 2017, under Dr. TejenderKataria COURSE DIRECTOR : Dr. A K Anand

Other Matters • International relations with ASTRO: DrVijayanand Reddy president AROI , briefed about the meeting he had with the president elect of ASTRO ( Dr Theodore Deweese) – • Inviting him to deliver Dr. K.T.Dinshaw oration. • Including AROI in the international radiation oncology societies. • Request for reducing the payment for best of ASTRO. • Free of cost red journal access.

37. Status on MD Radiotherapy to Radiation Oncology • Dr Reddy president AROI , has shown the letter he received from MCI , stating that the MD radiotherapy has been changed to MD Radiation Oncology and is submitted to the govt for gazette notification.

38. Introduction of DM Radiation Oncology courses. • Dr Reddy has explained the need of introducing the sub speciality\ super speciality courses in Radiation Oncology. • After a long discussion the house has suggested drreddy to go ahead with the proposal to the MCI , to introduce at least two common sub specialities – Head and Neck , Urogenital.--- proposed by Prof Ramesh Billimagga , seconded by Dr Kishore Singh. • Dr Reddy has assured that he would initiate the process and try to get them approved in asap.

Chart Rounds-- India • Dr Reddy has briefed on the chart rounds initiation and the logistics . • For one year it will be done on an experimental basis and further continuation will be based on members feedback. • If it need to be continued , we would find the sponsorers for the next year.– • Members have unanimously agreed to take it forward

40. Choosing wisely India • Dr Reddy has circulated mail earlier to all the AROI members about the choosing wisely concept . • AROI has partnered with other national oncology societies to initiate choosing wisely India • Members have appreciated this initiative and consented to go forward.
