  2. LOCALIZATION Italyis in south-central Europe. The capital of Italyis Rome. Itisbordered by France, Switzerland, Austria, Slovenia, San Marino and the Vatican city. The mainmountains are the Alps. The mainriveris the Po. The largestlakeis Garda.

  3. ADMINISTRATIVE DIVISION Sticking out into the Mediterranean sea like a boot, Italy is divided into 20 regions, five of which with a special autonomous status that enables them to enact legislation on some of their local matters.

  4. POLITICS • Italy is a Parlamentary Republic. • The President is Giorgio Napolitano. • The Prime Minister is Enrico Letta.

  5. INHABITANTS • About 60 million people live in Italy. • The most important cities are Rome, Milan, Naples, Venice, Florence and Turin.

  6. LANGUAGE AND RELIGION • The most important language is Italian. • There are 55 million speakers. • The main religion is Christianity. • 91,6% of Italians are Catholic.

  7. CASERTA a southern town

  8. Caserta is one of the five provinces of Campania, the region which is part of the “ankle” of the Italian “boot”.

  9. It is an important agricultural and industrial town.

  10. Caserta’s main attraction is the Royal Palace.

  11. The construction of the palace was begun in 1752 for Charles VII of Naples, who worked closely with his architect Luigi Vanvitelli. The political and social model for Vanvitelli's palace was Versailles.

  12. Inside are more than 1200 rooms, decorated in various styles.

  13. The park is 2 miles long (3,2 km) and contains many waterfalls, lakes and gardens.

  14. Famous is also Casertavecchia, the ancient centre of the town, and S. Leucio resort, seat of the important silk workshops.

  19. ORGANIZATION • School starts in the middle of September and finishes at the beginning of June. • We have lessons from 8.15 a.m. to 2.05 p.m. • We are at school from Monday to Saturday. • Our school period is divided in two terms of three and five months each.

  20. SCHOOL POPULATION The students are about 600. The teachers are about 80. There are about 20 students with special needsfollowed by specializedteachers. About 30 people work in the offices.

  21. THE BUILDING • The school in the centre of Caserta • It has four floors • There is a staff room and a library • There are about 10 labs (language, graphics, artistic, technology) with 180 computers • There is a gym and an outdoor volleyball field

  22. PROJECTS • Comenius projects. • Exchanges with European countries. • Language courses abroad. • Stages.
