Ocean Energy and Hydropower

By : Adam Rosbury

Ocean energy

Ocean Energy

  • Wave Energy

  • Tidal Energy

  • Thermal Energy

Wave energy

Wave Energy

  • Tremendous amount of energy in waves

  • Up an down movements can move piston to turn generators

  • Waves can be used in coastal reservoirs for the change in air pressure to turn turbines

Tidal energy

Tidal Energy

  • Onshore reservoir are used to retain water at high tide and let out at low tide.

  • Tidal Movements spin turbines generating power

Thermal energy

Thermal Energy

  • Difference in deep and surface water used for water vapor production

  • Rising water vapor spins turbine

Ocean energy1

Ocean Energy

  • Advantages

    • Renewable

    • Abundant

    • No fossil Fuel Emissions

  • Disadvantages

    • Technology not there yet (especially for deep water)

    • Cold water plumes (Thermal Energy)

    • Not easily accessible by the public

Hydropower

Hydropower

  • Uses Energy of moving water

  • Similar to wave energy

  • Used in Dams, Rivers,

    along with other non

    marine moving waters

How it works

How it Works

Hydropower1

Hydropower
