Learning Objectives • WALT: • Understand the meaning of the word classes: verbs, adjectives and nouns and ‘synonym’. • Write your own cinquain poem linked to the theme of: Rembering • WILF: • To be able to describe the basic structure of a cinquain. • To be able to set out the poem in the correct and logical order.

  3. How to Write a Cinquain • Line 1: 1 word subject (noun - naming word) • Line 2: 2 adjectives (describing words) • Line 3: 3 words that express action (verb) • Line 4: 1 phrase about the subject • Line 5: 1 synonym for the subject • Also add a suitable title

  4. Synonym A word or phrase that means the same as another word or phrase in the same language For example: shut is a synonym of close

  5. SynonymsThink of at least four synonyms for the following words. Beautiful: Attractive, Pretty, Lovely, Strong: Stable, Secure, Funny: Comical, Boat: Chocolate: Treasure: Memory: Past: Scream: Child: Prodded:

  6. Planning A one-word subject, a noun ? Toys Two adjectives ? Cosy, soft, Three verbs ? Hold, grip, cuddle, A phrase about the subject ? My childhood friends A synonym for your title ? Playthings Add a title that links to the subject ? Playmates Think carefully about your word choices and improve as your plan develops.   9. Memories of Scotland A one-word title, a noun ? Two adjectives ? Three verbs ? A phrase about the sentence ? A synonym for your title ? Add a title that links to the subject ? Think about places, traditions food, activities, weather , people etc.
