  1. Cinquain Poems Cinquain, pronounced sin-cane, is a non-rhyming five-lined poem. The basic form of the Cinquain follows a pattern of syllables.

  2. Cinquain Pattern #1 The traditional Cinquain, which was invented by the 19th century American poet Adelaide Crapsey, has five lines, with a syllable count of 2, 4, 6, 8, 2. Here's one of mine. I have(2) wandered alone (4) in the Derbyshire hills (6) but my heart was always seeking (8) the sea(2)

  3. Cinquain Pattern #2 • Line1: One word • Line #2: Two words • Line #3: Three words • Line #4: Four words • Line #5: One word Dinosaur(1 word) Lived once (2 words) Long ago, but (3 words) Only durst and dreams (4 words) Remain (1 word)

  4. Cinquain Pattern #3 • Line 1: A noun • Line 2: Two adjectives • Line 3: Three-ing words • Line 4: A phrase • Line 5: Another word for the noun Spaghetti (a noun) Messy, spicy (2 adjectives) Slurping, sliding, falling (3 ing words) Between my plate and mouth (a phrase Delicious (noun)
