  4. THE CONFERENCE • Daily plenary sessions (researchers, community leaders, policy specialists present at this session. The session aims to explore critical issues and next steps in global response to HIV) • Special sessions (90 minute sessions during lunchtime. World leaders, international AIDS ambassadors, key community leaders and other influential people present at these sessions)

THE CONFERENCE (cont) • ABSTRACT DRIVEN SESSIONS (Tracks A – E all with different headings and themes) • Track A = Biology and pathogenesis of HIV • Track B = Clinical research, treatment and care • Track C = Epidemiology, prevention and prevention research • Track D = Social, behavioural and economic sciences • Track E = Policy and political science

THE CONFERENCE (cont) • Cross cutting themes • Globalisation of HIV/AIDS • Science and technology • Health systems strengthening and integration • Stigma, discrimination and social justice • <<Do the right thing>> and Evidence-informed policies and programmes • Tracking progress & accountability

  7. THE CONFERENCE (cont) • Oral Abstract sessions (presentations of findings of peer-reviewed research. Organised by the five tracks) • Poster discussions (poster presentations and discussions) • Poster exhibition and viewing sessions (display of different posters organised by the five tracks)

THE CONFERENCE • Non-Abstract driven sessions (goal here is to develop strategies and ideas to fast-track response to epidemic) Symposia Participative and practical session dealing with critical issues that defy simple solutions. Bridging sessions Connect three areas of science, community and leadership to provide a multi-faceted approach

THE CONFERENCE (cont) • Skills building workshops (impart skills that one can use when they get back home) • PROGRAMME ACTIVITIES • Global Village (interactive participatory community focused space strengthening conference theme) • Cultural Programme (opportunity to share methods and tools of communication. Incl. visual arts, literature, film, performance art etc.) • Youth Programme (youth empowerment, young scientists, HIV positive youth)
