  1. MYP Biology Warm-up Warm-up: Write Q and A on sheet. Do you think plants can compete with each other? If so, what are two things that you think plants compete for?

  2. Plant Competition Lab Clean-up: Reset box and return to side of room. Wipe up table - use one paper towel only. Wash hands with soap - use one paper towel only.

  3. Choosing the Right Graph When should you use a…. Bar Graph? Line Graph? Scatter Plot (X-Y Plot)?

  4. Choosing a Title for a Graph Every graph needs a title. 1. Identify the independent and dependent variables. 2. Write a title in one of these formats: The Effect of IV on DV (Ex. The Effect of Competition on Plant Growth) OR The Dependence of DV on IV (Ex. The Dependence of Plant Growth on Competition) Graph work time! Graph in pencil so that you can make corrections. Use a ruler.

  5. MYP Biology Warm-up Warm-up: Write terms and definitions only on your sheet. Population - Community - Ecosystem - Use the diagram and talk with your desk partner to develop a definition of each term. Write in pencil so that you can make revisions.

  6. MYP Biology Warm-up HWK: Graphs and packet due Mon. Warm-up: Write Q & A on sheet. Does this picture represent a population, community, or ecosystem? Use your warm-up from yesterday to help. Explain your answer.

  7. Ecosystem Vocabulary Add to your notebook Population - a group of organisms of the same species who live in the same area at the same time. Community - a group of populations living and interacting with each other in an area. Ecosystem - a community and its abiotic (non-living) environment.

  8. Shelter = 1, 2 Food = 3, 4 Water = 5, 6 Oh Deer! The dependence of deer population on generation Number in population Generation

  9. Oh Deer! Think-Pair-Share What caused the deer population to increase? What caused the deer population to decrease? Why did the population size constantly fluctuate? What were some limits on the growth of this population? What size of population do you think this habitat could support over time? Watch video clip

  10. Science Friday! HWK: Graphs and packet due Mon. Warm-up: Write Q & A on sheet. 1. What is Utah offering to coyote hunters? 2. How do supporters think reducing coyote populations will affect mule deer? 3. Why do some people oppose this program? 4. What are some ways that coyotes adapt in order to survive?

  11. Ecosystem Vocabulary Add to your notebook Habitat - the environment in which a species normally lives Carrying capacity - the largest number of individuals of a species that can survive over long periods of time in a given environment; depends on the effect of the limiting factors
