  2. Phase IV of the war started with the largest single Invasionary force in the history of man. June 6th, 1944, known as ‘Operation Overlord’, but better known as “D Day” Phase IV

  3. Phase IV The first objectif for the Canadians after debarking was to take the city of Caen. It was an important German transportation and rail center. Why is this important for the allies if they wish to affect their long term ability to win the war?

  4. Phase IV The retreat of the Nazis Toward Belgium The battle took nearly the entire summer of ’44 because Caen was defended by the best German soldiers. The Canadians next moved to the city of Falaise to help the americans and then followed Germans to Belgium where surrender took place.

  5. Phase IV We took the Belgian port of Anvers and then liberated Holland with a force of more than 170 000 soldiers. We lost more than 7 600 Canadians during these nine months to liberate Holland.
