  15. 7-Mode: 64-bit Aggregates • Current 16TB max size for 32-bit aggregates • Limited number of spindles using larger drives • More total aggregates required Solution: 64-bit aggregates – up to 100TB in Data ONTAP 8.0 16 x 2TB drives = 32TB 48 x 2TB drives = 96TB 32 x 2TB drives = 64TB NetApp Confidential - Internal Use Only

  16. 7-Mode: 64-bit Aggregates • Why? • Better storage efficiency & performance with high capacity SATA drives (1TB and larger) • Simplify storage management by using fewer aggregates and volumes • Max size: 40 to 100TB for aggregates and FlexVols • Based on system model, recovery times and WAFL consistency capabilities • Architectural maximum size ~1000 Petabytes • No change to max # snapshots, max file size, max LUN size • 7-Mode only • No license required • 32-bit remains default type for new aggregates • Existing 32-bit aggregates/volumes cannot grow > 16TB • 8.0: No in-place upgrade of existing aggregates • Will be available in future Data ONTAP 8 release NetApp Confidential - Internal Use Only
