  16. Who an the AVID Elective student? These are capable students in the academic middle, often not realizing their full academic potential. Criteria to consider include: • Standardized Test Scores • Grades • Behavior • Attendance • College Potential • Desire and Determination • Family Support • Historically Under-represented in 4-year Colleges • Economic Situation • Other Special Circumstances

How the AVID Elective Works • Accelerates under-achieving students, who have potential, into more rigorous courses • Teaches academic and social skills not targeted in other classes • Provides intensive support with in-class tutors and a strong student/teacher relationship • Creates a positive peer group for students • Develops a sense of hope and personal achievementgained through hard work and determination
