  2. Who is a part of the team? • Regular Education Teacher • Special Education Teacher • Instructional Assistant

  3. Regular Education Teacher *Implement accommodations/modifications *Provide direction to the instructional assistant about class activities *Communicate with the Special Education Teacher about what is working and not working *Give suggestions for possible changes to student’s program.

  4. Special Education Teacher *Inform regular classroom teacher about any accommodations/modifications and assist in making these modifications *Check on student’s progress *Train instructional assistant to run students’ program. *Monitor instructional assistant. *Collect data/suggestions from regular classroom teacher to make changes to student’s program.

  5. Instructional Assistant *Follow and implement student’s individualized program *Collect data on student’s progress *Inform regular education and special education teacher about student’s progress *Assist other students in the classroom when their assigned students are working independently

  6. Communication is Key! *Set up regular informal team meetings to check on student’s progress *Make team decisions based on data about program changes

  7. Remember! • The student is not: • “your kid” • or “my kid” • but “OUR KID”! This means everyone is responsible for educating the student!

  8. What I do When the Program Isn’t Working? • Set up a meeting with the team to problem solve. • Have the sped teacher do a classroom observation. • Use all the resources available to the team.

  9. Remember that the focus should be on the student! • Make decisions based on what is good for the student • Work on one issue at a time so that the student is not overwhelmed • Communicate with your team members!
